What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi Chuan (Tai Chi or Taiji) originated as a martial art and a meditative discipline. Tai Chi is actually a form of Chi Gong (Chi Kung or Qi Gong). Tai Chi differs from many other forms of exercise because it utilizes a holistic approach to enhance one’s health using both mind and body. It is excellent for strengthening the body and improving flexibility on many different levels.
The movements of the more popular forms of Tai Chi are slow-paced, non-impact and not strenuous. The practice of Tai Chi does not tax or deplete the body's energy level; rather it creates strength and increases one's vital life force and concentration.
The movements give every part of the body-muscles, bones and joints-a chance to exercise and balance. The breathing methods enhance deep relaxation throughout the entire body and mind thus reducing stress and lowering ones blood pressure.
Benefits of Tai Chi
Tai Chi improves the natural functions of the organs, increasing their vigor and strengthens them against disease. Tai Chi leads to the improved awareness of the different parts of the body, better functioning of the central nervous system and strong enhancement of physical coordination.
